“When sixteen-year-old Ellie Baum accidentally time-travels via red balloon to 1988 East Berlin, she’s caught up in a conspiracy of history and magic. She meets members of an underground guild in East Berlin who use balloons and magic to help people escape over the Wall—but even to the balloon makers, Ellie’s time travel is a mystery. When it becomes clear that someone is using dark magic to change history, Ellie must risk everything—including her only way home—to stop the process.”

I find myself struggling to pull any thoughts from my weary brain as I sit here and stare blankly at the computer. What do people want to read in an eBook blog? In an age when attention spans seem to be shortening and social media devours online time, how can one little blog about eBooks receive any interest? The answer to that questions is quite simple: I don’t know. This may sound hopeless, but maybe honesty will pull people in.
To me, eBooks and eAudiobooks are a way for library’s to continue staying relevant in our ever changing age. Many people want to complete all their activities online; from shopping to watching shows, to banking. Why not include reading in there? Libby, from OverDrive, is the perfect way to do that. There are thousands of books at the reach of your fingertips. Is that not enough for you? You can also gain access to shows, movies, and songs through Hoopla and RB Digital. Just go to our website at: www.warsawlibrary.org and scroll down, you will see all of the above listed apps. Follow the link and create a FREE account with your library card. Why pay for streaming services, when you can have free access through your local library?

The One Thing by Marci Lyn Curtis
“Six months ago, Maggie contracted bacterial meningitis and went blind. A rising soccer star, Maggie doesn’t take the news well – her whole life is turned upside down now that she can’t see. She ignores her friends’ phone calls, stops caring about school, and is mean to her parents. And after a school prank goes wrong, she now has a probation officer.
Everything changes when she slips on some pistachio ice cream while coming out of a meeting with her probation officer. Maggie hits her head, and wakes up to see a 10 year old boy laughing at her fall. Maggie is annoyed, until the realization hits – she can SEE him laughing!
Ben is her probation officer’s nephew, and for whatever reason, he is the only person Maggie can see. As Maggie and Ben (and Ben’s brother Mason) develop an unlikely friendship, Maggie learns that Ben has struggles of his own. When Maggie discovers the reason that she can see Ben, the consequences are devastating. What is Maggie willing to sacrifice for the little sight she gleans with Ben? And can she find the inner strength to adjust to a life without sight?”
We are right in the middle of the Summer Reading Program at the Warsaw Community Public Library and there are so many books to read! There is only a month left to earn your prizes, so get cracking! Are you struggling to pick your next book? Read the following book review by a staff member and get swept up in the mystery.
“Are you a fan of mysteries? Did you like The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware? Head over to OverDrive and download her newest release, The Death of Mrs. Westaway.
This is the story of Hal-a girl who is grieving the loss of her mother, friendless, broke, and in debt to a seemingly murderous loan shark. When all hope seems lost, she receives a letter saying that her grandmother has died and may have left her an inheritance. The only problem is that Hal’s grandparents have been dead for years. Desperate and fearing for her life, she takes the opportunity for some quick cash and decides to fake her way into the inheritance. She travels to the family mansion and gets embroiled in the mysteries of the foreboding manor.
Ruth Ware is very good at the slow build while keeping the mystery intact. The Death of Mrs. Westaway is no different. I was never quite certain about the ending, I kept having inklings, but then Ware would send me in a different direction.
The imagery in this book is fantastic. It paints the picture of Trepassen (the mansion) and its grounds in very foreboding and creepy tones. I could just imagine it as I read, and towards the end I definitely got chills. There is something especially delightful about a dusty, dark, mansion that feeds into the mystery so well. If you were a fan of Daphne du Maurier‘s novel Rebecca, you may find some parts of this book similar in nature. Download The Death of Mrs. Westaway on OverDrive in either eBook or eAudiobook form settle into a cozy chair, and be prepared to be swept into the mystery. ”
